Step 1: Measurements
Accurate measurements provide the foundation.
Important measurements can include neck circumference, chest, waist, shoulder width, sleeve length, shirt length, and cuff size.
Depending on the customer and production system, measurements may be provided through a measurement form or taken from a well-fitting existing shirt.
Step 2: Choosing the Design
The customer can then select the style details.
These may include:
Collar shape
Cuff style
Button selection
Pocket design
Back construction
Shirt length
Fit
Stitching details
These small choices allow the shirt to be adapted to different occasions and personal preferences.
Step 3: Fabric Selection
Fabric affects both appearance and comfort.
Cotton remains one of the most widely used choices for dress shirts, while different weaves and finishes can create very different textures.
Lightweight fabrics may be suitable for warmer conditions, while heavier fabrics can provide a more substantial feel.
Step 4: Pattern and Cutting
Once the measurements and design specifications are confirmed, the pattern can be prepared.
The fabric is then cut according to the approved specifications.
Precision at this stage is essential because even small differences can affect the final fit.
Step 5: Sewing and Finishing
The individual components are assembled through multiple sewing processes.
Collars, cuffs, sleeves, front panels, back panels, and other details are carefully constructed.
Pressing is also an important part of the process. Proper pressing helps create a clean appearance and supports the intended shape of the garment.
Step 6: Final Inspection
Before delivery, the finished shirt should be checked for measurements, construction, appearance, and finishing details.
A custom shirt is ultimately a combination of measurement accuracy, design decisions, fabric selection, and production quality.
